GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball rallied from a 12-point deficit in the final six minutes to take the lead Saturday afternoon against visiting Thiel. But Thiel's Marlon Ellerbee hit a three-pointer with 23 seconds left to give the Tomcats a 63-61 win over Grove City in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City had one final possession following Ellerbee's three-pointer but the Wolverines could not convert.
Senior guard
Ben Rose (Helena, Ala./Helena) fired in a game-high 23 points to lead Grove City, Eleven men scored Saturday for the Wolverines.
Thiel led 58-46 before Grove City used a 15-2 run to take its only lead of the game. Consecutive three-pointers by Rose and sophomore forward
Luca Robinson (Castaic, Calif./Hart) quickly cut the lead in half. Freshman guard
Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell) hit another three-pointer, cutting the lead to 59-55 with 3:40 left.
Rose and junior forward
Elijah White (Zelienople, Pa./Portersville Christian) both sank two free throws to pull Grove City to within 60-59 with 2:15 left. Grove City then took the lead with one minute left as sophomore forward
Chris Brooks (Canfield, Ohio/South Range) scored off an assist from junior forward
Josh Bryan (Salem, Va./Salem).
Rose also led Grove City with six rebounds. Thiel out-rebounded Grove City, 48-36.
Grove City finished the game 23 of 58 (40 percent) from the field. Thiel went 21 of 62 (34 percent) on field goals. Thiel had 14 turnovers and Grove City turned over the ball 13 times.
Rose added four assists, three blocks and three steals. White blocked three shots.
Ahmad Tejumola led Thiel with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
