PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College men's basketball team concluded a four-game road swing Monday night by dropping a 74-64 decision at Chatham (17-1, 12-1 PAC) in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Chatham Center. Grove City led for much of the second half but conference-leading Chatham outscored Grove City, 19-8, over the final 4:45 of the game.
Senior guard
Ben Rose (Helena, Ala./Helena) paced the Wolverines with 14 points and two teammates joined him in double figures. Junior forward
Elijah White (Zelienople, Pa./Portersville Christian) tossed in 13 points and freshman guard
Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell) contributed 12 points on four three-point goals.Â
Grove City surged ahead late in the first half with an 11-1 run. Rose sparked the run with consecutive jumpers while Bock and freshman forward
Ben Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) each hit three-pointers to give Grove City a 25-18 lead. The Wolverines led 27-23 at halftime.
Chatham took its first lead of the second half, 54-53, with six minutes left as Nick Bomar converted a three-point play. Bock drained a three-pointer to Grove City its final lead of the night, 56-55, with 4:45 left. Malik Potter put the Cougars back ahead with a three-pointer on the subsequent possession.
Grove City out-rebounded Chatham, 43-30. Rose led Grove City with eight rebounds. Sophomore forward
Luca Robinson (Castaic, Calif./Hart) ripped down six rebounds.Â
Rose also led Grove City with seven assists. Junior forward
Josh Bryan (Salem, Va./Salem) assisted four field goals. Rose recorded three steals.Â
Grove City turned over the ball 23 times while Chatham had 18 turnovers. Grove City shot 44 percent (27 of 62) from the field. Chatham finished 23 of 57 (40 percent). Chatham shot 57 percent (17 of 30) in the second half.Â
Potter led Chatham with 24 points.
Grove City opens a three-game homestand Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. by hosting Chatham in the Grove City College Arena. Monday night's game had originally been scheduled for January 12.
