Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Win streak stopped at 6

LATROBE, Pa. -- Three Grove City College women's basketball players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon but the Wolverines' six-game win streak ended as host Saint Vincent clipped Grove City, 71-63, in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at the Carey Center. 

Junior center Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) paced Grove City (13-7, 10-4 PAC) with a career-high 19 points while senior forward Allison Podkul (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) posted 14 points.  Freshman forward Clara Hannon (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) recorded her first collegiate double-double by scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Grove City trailed 40-31 at halftime and then faced a 45-35 deficit 75 seconds into the third quarter. The Wolverines quickly trimmed the lead to 45-41, however, on consecutive Podkul baskets and a fast-break layup from junior guard Megan Kallock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem). 

Saint Vincent held Grove City to one field goal over the final seven minutes of the third quarter and took a 53-44 lead into the fourth period. 

Grove City shot 37 percent (23 of 62) from the field for the game while Saint Vincent finished 27 of 62 (44 percent). The Bearcats out-rebounded Grove City, 37-28. Cano added eight rebounds for Grove City.

Freshman guard Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) doled out five assists and also recorded a career-best eight steals. Cano had three steals as Grove City forced 21 Saint Vincent turnovers. The Wolverines turned over the ball 18 times. 

Ella Marconi led Saint Vincent with 19 points. Grove City led 22-17 after the first quarter. 

Grove City will host conference foe Chatham at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
