MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team opened the 2022 season Saturday afternoon by rolling to a 17-8 victory at Rhodes in non-conference play at Crain Field.
Ten men scored for Grove City (1-0), led by a four-goal performance from junior attack
James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus). Freshman attack
Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) pumped in three goals in his collegiate debut while sophomore attack
Griffen Agawa (San Ramon, Calif./California) and freshman attack
Zachary Hougan (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) both scored twice.

Trenton Steele (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) also scored in the win.
After Rhodes (0-1) took an early 1-0 lead, Grove City scored eight straight goals to break open the game. Kraus tied the game at 12:06 of the first quarter off Bishop's assist. Petrolle and La Forte scored unassisted goals to give the Wolverines a 3-1 lead after one quarter.
Hougan scored twice in the second quarter for the Wolverines while Blythe's goal with three seconds left gave Grove City an 8-1 halftime lead.
Gladstone also assisted three Grove City goals. Agawa, Carpenter, La Forte, Petrolle and sophomore midfielder
Jack Carpenter (Newtown, Conn./St. Joseph) all had one assist.

Grant Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) both had a team-leading six ground balls while Steele picked up three ground balls. Steele also caused a pair of turnovers. Evans won 12 of 15 faceoffs.
Grove City outshot Rhodes, 43-40. The Wolverines had 38 ground balls and Rhodes recorded 33 ground balls. Grove City turned over possession 29 times and Rhodes had 21 turnovers.
Junior
Jack Petit (Pensacola, Fla./West Florida High School of Advanced Technology) made seven saves in the first half to earn the win in goal. Senior
R.J. Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) made nine saves in the second half.
Grove City will face No. 14 Colorado College at 12 p.m. Sunday at Rhodes.
