Grove City tops Waynesburg, 60-55

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team led wire-to-wire Saturday afternoon at Waynesburg as the visiting Wolverines secured a 60-55 win in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Rudy Marisa Field House. 

Senior forward Allison Podkul (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) recorded an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double for Grove City and junior guard Megan Kallock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) added 12 points for Grove City (8-6, 5-3 PAC).

A Podkul layup gave Grove City a 55-42 lead with 7:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. Waynesburg cut Grove City's lead to 55-53 with 1:39 remaining but freshman forward Clara Hannon (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) stopped Waynesburg's run by hitting a 20-footer with 42 seconds left. 

Waynesburg's Brooke Fuller again cut the lead to two, 57-55, with a layup on the Yellow Jackets' next possession. Podkul sealed the win with a transition basket behind Waynesburg's press with 24 seconds remaining. 

Hannon added four assists for Grove City while freshman guard Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) recorded three steals and blocked a pair of shots. Both players finished with seven points. Junior center Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) recorded seven rebounds. Waynesburg held a 49-46 edge on the glass.

Grove City shot 36 percent (22 of 62) from the field while Waynesburg went 20 of 66 (30 percent). Waynesburg turned over the ball 24 times. Grove City committed 20 turnovers. 

Fuller led Waynesburg with 22 points. Grove City led 32-24 at halftime.

Grove City will begin another three-game week Monday evening when the Wolverines host conference rival Geneva at 5:30 p.m.
