GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team scored twice in a 99-second span in the second half Saturday afternoon against visiting Allegheny (0-2) as the Wolverines opened the 2021 season with a 2-0 non-conference win at Don Lyle Field.
Grove City broke a scoreless tie at 71:45 when junior forward
Hailey Weinert (Bel Air, Md./Kennett, Pa.) blasted in the Wolverines' first goal of the season. Freshman midfielder
Erin Venus (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) assisted Weinert's goal.
The lead swelled to 2-0 at 73:24 as sophomore forward
Gianna D'Amato (Maywood, N.J./Hawthorne Christian) scored an unassisted goal from 25 yards out.
Grove City owned a 10-6 edge in shots, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. The Wolverines had three corner kicks and Allegheny tallied one corner kick.

Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) stopped two shots in her collegiate debut.
The home team had been 0-4-1 in the previous five Grove City-Allegheny matches.
Grove City will visit Capital next Friday at 7 p.m. in non-conference play.
