Late PK foils Wolverines

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 verdict Saturday afternoon at Mount Union in non-conference play at Mount Union Stadium. Mount Union (4-3-1) broke a 1-1 tie with 2:26 remaining in regulation as Kaela Turle scored on a penalty kick.

Grove City trailed 1-0 in the final 10 minutes but pulled into a tie at 81:38 when senior defender Tirzah Lloyd (Durham, N.C./Homeschooled) blasted a penalty kick into the net. It is Lloyd's second goal of the season.

Mount Union opened the scoring at 37:10 on a goal by Madison Pepper.

Each team had six shots on goal. Mount Union held a 10-9 edge in total shots. Mount Union had three corner kicks and Grove City recorded two corners.

Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) stopped four shots for the Wolverines.

Grove City's five-game road trip will continue Monday night when the Wolverines visit Mount Aloysius in non-conference play at 7 p.m. That match had been scheduled for opening night, September 1, but flooding in central Pennsylvania forced the match to be postponed. Presidents' Athletic Conference play begins next Wednesday night at Washington & Jefferson.
