Grove City blanks Roger Williams in NCAA Tourney

ROME, Ga. -- The Grove City College men's tennis team opened the 2021 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament by earning a 5-0 win Thursday afternoon over Roger Williams (10-1) at the Rome Tennis Center. The Wolverine will now face Brandeis at 3 p.m. Friday in the second round of the tournament.

Grove City (9-2) asserted control of the match by sweeping the three doubles matches. Junior Karsten Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and freshman Jack Booker (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) earned an 8-5 win at first doubles while sophomore Ryne Talko (Cresson, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) teamed with freshman Jameson Sposato (Frewsburg, N.Y./Frewsburg Central) to secure an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles.

At third doubles, freshmen Collier Kaufman (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) and Michael Odrey (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) notched an 8-5 victory.

Talko won at third singles and Sposato prevailed at No. 6 singles to clinch the team victory.

This is Grove City's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2016. The Wolverines will be making their first appearance in the second round since 2012.
