NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's tennis team rolled to a 5-0 victory Friday afternoon at Westminster in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. Top-seeded Grove City will now face Franciscan at 1 p.m. Saturday in Washington, Pa., for the tournament title.
Grove City (7-2 overall) yielded only four games in sweeping the three doubles matches.Â
Junior
Karsten Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and freshman
Jack Booker (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) earned an 8-1 win at first singles while the No. 2 doubles team of sophomore
Ryne Talko (Cresson, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) and freshman
Jameson Sposato (Frewsburg, N.Y./Frewsburg) also picked up an 8-1 win.Â
The freshman duo of
Collier Kaufman (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) and
Michael Odrey (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) secured an 8-2 win at third doubles.Â
Booker and Lagerquist each only yielded two games in winning at first and second singles, respectively. Their wins clinched the team victory.
Grove City earned a 9-0 win April 10 at Franciscan. Franciscan is the third seed in the tournament. The Barons advanced to the finals when No. 2 Saint Vincent withdrew from the tournament.
