Wolverines earn shutout win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team earned its fourth shutout victory of the spring 2021 season Tuesday night as the Wolverines pulled out a 1-0 victory over visiting Franciscan in Presidents' Athletic Conference competition at Don Lyle Field. Grove City improved to 6-1 in the conference and clinched a berth in next week's four-team conference tournament with Tuesday night's triumph.

Grove City (6-1 overall) broke the scoreless tie at 64:33 when freshman midfielder Hunter Hardin (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Freeport) collected a loose ball after a Grove City throw-in and blasted the ball into the net. It is Hardin's third overall goal and his second game-winning score of the season.

The Wolverines outshot Franciscan (3-4-1, 3-4-1) 15-7 and held an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Grove City also had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Luke Greenway (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) stopped four shots to earn his 12th career shutout. That moves him into a tie for sixth place on Grove City's career list with Sean Osborne (2006-09). Greenway also has 22 career wins, the No. 7 mark in program history.

Grove City will host Washington & Jefferson (6-1-1) at 7 p.m. Friday night in the regular season finale. The winner will clinch a home match in next week's tournament semifinals.
