BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision in double overtime Saturday night at Geneva in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Reeves Field. Geneva's Cole Sauer broke the 2-2 tie at the 105:00 mark.
Grove City (2-1, 2-1 PAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead at 4:50 when junior
Holton Gwaltney (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) scored an unassisted goal, the first of his collegiate career. Geneva's Luke Herman tied the match by scoring at 8:20.
Geneva then took its first lead of the night at 65:31 on a goal by Avery Wenger. However, Grove City forged a 2-2 tie eight minutes later when junior
Kennan Roewer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Classical Academy) scored at the 73:20 mark. Freshman
Chris Eklund (St. Charles, Ill./Wheaton Academy) assisted Roewer's goal.
Each team had five corner kicks in the match. Geneva had 17 shots while Grove City attempted seven shots.
In goal, junior
Luke Greenway (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) made six saves for the Wolverines.
Grove City will host Westminster at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in conference action at Don Lyle Field.
