PITTSBURGH -- An 11-goal first quarter helped vault the Grove City College men's lacrosse team earn a 27-5 victory Saturday at Chatham in a clash of Presidents' Athletic Conference members at Graham FIeld. The 27 goals are the most scored by Grove City in one game in the four-year history of the varsity program.
Nine men scored in the win for Grove City, including five with multiple-goal efforts. Sophomore attack
James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus) helped lead the way with seven goals while junior attack
Jed Speers (Medina, Ohio/Medina) fired in six goals.Â

Michael La Forte (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) scored five times in the win while junior attack
Blaise Bishop (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) added three goals. Junior midfielder
Brett Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) scored twice. Senior attack
Aidan Morse (Lynchburg, Va./New Covenant), junior midfielder
Grant Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair), senior defender
Jared Hurd (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) and senior defender
Patrick Mark (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Wellington) all added goals.
La Forte added six assists, giving him an 11-point performance. Speers and Petrolle both had 10 points as Speers assisted four goals and Petrolle recorded three assists.Â
La Forte scored three times in the first period while also recording three assists in the opening 15 minutes. Bishop scored consecutive goals to give Grove City a 9-1 lead with five minutes remaining in the period. Speers and Evans scored in a 17-second span to boost the lead to 11-1 with 3:38 left in the first half.
Mark scored with 1:51 left in the first half to give Grove City a 19-2 halftime lead.Â
Bishop recorded two assists while Morse and junior defender
Addison Bennett (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) each assisted one goal.Â
Evans won 19 of 21 faceoffs and picked up a team-leading 16 ground balls. Sophomore
Max Chmura (Wadsworth, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) won 8 of 10 faceoffs. Chmura added nine ground balls. Speers picked up five ground balls.Â
Junior
R.J. Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) earned his first win in goal this spring by making 14 saves.Â
Grove City held a 59-21 advantage in shots and a 38-19 edge in shots on goal. Chatham had 22 turnovers. Grove City turned over the ball 18 times. Grove City converted both of its extra-man opportunities and did not commit a penalty.
The Wolverines (3-1) will host Bethany next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Robert E. Thorn Field.
