GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team opened its 2021 spring season Saturday afternoon by earning a 2-0 victory over visiting Waynesburg in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Don Lyle Field.
Grove City owned an 11-1 advantage in shots in the first half but the Wolverines did not break through until the 64th minute Saturday. Freshman midfielder
Hunter Hardin (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Freeport) broke the scoreless tie with his first collegiate goal at 63:37. Senior
Seth Wade (Winchester, Va./Sherando) assisted Hardin's goal.
The Wolverines doubled the lead at 83:22 when freshman midfielder
Chris DeLucia (Kent, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) scored an unassisted goal that sealed the win.
Grove City finished the match with a 23-4 edge in shots. The Wolverines also held an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper
Luke Greenway (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) stopped two shots to earn the shutout victory.
Grove City (1-0, 1-0) will host Thiel next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Don Lyle Field.
