GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Four Grove City College women's basketball players scored in double figures Wednesday night to help lead the visiting Wolverines to a 102-49 win at Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.
Senior guard
Jess Bowen (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) paced Grove City (5-0) with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. Junior forward
Allison Podkul (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) posted 14 points while freshman forward
Kat Goetz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) recorded a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Sophomore center
Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) added 10 points in the return to her hometown. Senior guard
Lindsey Stanforth (Novelty, Ohio/West Geauga) chipped in nine points while going 3 for 3 from behind the three-point line.
Overall, all 15 dressed Grove City players played at least five minutes. Fourteen players scored in the victory.
Grove City trailed 8-3 early but took the lead for good with a 9-0 blitz. Stanforth tied the game with a three-pointer while Podkul put Grove City ahead with a steal and subsequent layup. Senior forward
Jessica Kimbrell (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) hit a jumper to close the early run.
Consecutive field goals by sophomore guard
Megan Kallock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) and Podkul gave Grove City an 18-10 lead after one quarter. Stanforth and sophomore guard
Emma Vezzosi (St. Mary's County, Md./Leonardtown) each hit three-pointers in the final minute of the first half to help Grove City secure a 46-22 lead by halftime.
Grove City shot 22 of 36 (61 percent) from the field in the second half. Overall, Grove City finished 38 of 72 (53 percent) for the game. Thiel shot 15 of 51 (29 percent) for the game.
Cano added six rebounds and freshman forward
Bailey Foster (Lynchburg, Va./New Covenant) had five rebounds, helping Grove City accumulate a 43-34 edge on the glass.
Bowen assisted seven field goals and senior guard
Jordan McConnell (Smithville, Ohio/Smithville) recorded five assists. Podkul tallied four assists. Bowen, Goetz and Podkul all had four steals while Vezzosi had three steals.
Grove City forced 33 Thiel turnovers. The Wolverines turned over the ball 18 times. Destiny Johnson led Thiel (0-3) with eight points.
Grove City will visit Franciscan at 1 p.m. Saturday in conference action.
