PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's basketball team produced a trio of double-digit scorers Wednesday night on the way to a 72-53 victory at Chatham in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Chatham Center.
Freshman forward
Kat Goetz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) paced Grove City (3-0) with a 17-point, 17-rebound double-double. Both figures are career highs for Goetz. Senior guard
Jess Bowen (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) recorded 14 points and junior forward
Allison Podkul (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) added 10 points. Bowen and Podkul have each scored in double figures in all three games this season for the Wolverines.
Grove City closed the first quarter on an 11-0 run and held a 15-6 lead after 10 minutes of play. Bowen sparked the run with a jumper while Podkul added a transition basket. Bowen's three-point play gave Grove City an 11-6 lead with a minute left in the quarter. Senior forward
Jessica Kimbrell (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) closed out the period with consecutive jumpers, extending the lead to nine.
The run continued into the second quarter as sophomore center
Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) scored on a putback on the period's first possession. Grove City led 28-17 at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half.
Bowen and Podkul both recorded eight rebounds, helping Grove City accumulate a 53-42 rebound advantage. Bowen also tallied seven steals and Goetz had four steals. As a team, Grove City recorded 21 thefts. The Wolverines forced 23 turnovers, which led to 25 points. Grove City turned over the ball 14 times.
