GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 64-62 decision Tuesday night at Kenyon in non-conference action at Tomsich Arena. Kenyon broke a 62-62 tie with five seconds left when Miles Versa hit two free throws. Grove City had a chance to tie the game at the end of regulation but did not convert in the paint.
Senior guard
Ben Rose (Helena, Ala./Helena) paced Grove City (4-4) with 14 points while sophomore forward
Luca Robinson (Castaic, Calif./Hart) added a season-high 10 points in 12 minutes. Freshman guard
Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell) hit three three-pointers to account for his nine points.
Grove City took a 57-48 lead with 6:35 left when Rose scored a layup. Kenyon forged a 57-57 tie by scoring nine consecutive points. The Lords then took a 62-60 lead with 2:27 left on Versa's field goal in the paint. Grove City tied the game with 25 seconds left when sophomore forward
Chris Brooks (Canfield, Ohio/South Range) scored off a Robinson assist.
Juniors
Joshua McCray (Jessup, Md./Ashville College, U.K.) and
Elijah White (Zelienople, Pa./Portersville Christian) both pulled in seven rebounds for the Wolverines while Robinson collected six rebounds. Grove City outrebounded Kenyon, 54-37.
Rose and McCray each had two steals. Senior center
Josh Brown (Enumclaw, Wash./Enumclaw) and senior guard
Isaac Thrasher (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) both had two assists.Â
Grove City shot 26 of 71 (37 percent) for the game while Kenyon converted 28 of 70 (40.0 percent) field goal attempts. Each team hit five three-point goals. Kenyon had eight turnovers while Grove City committed 15 turnovers.Â
Nick Lewis led Kenyon with 17 points. Grove City led 32-29 at halftime.
Grove City returns to action December 29 at the Bluffton (Ohio) Christmas Tournament. The Wolverines will face Miami-Hamilton.
