BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 2-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday as host Bethany pulled out a 73-70 win over the Wolverines at Hummel Field House. Bethany used a 14-3 run in the final three minutes to surge ahead after Grove City held a 59-56 lead with three minutes left.
Junior guard
Megan Kallock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) fired in a career-high 32 points for Grove City (4-2, 2-1 PAC). That marks the highest single-game point total by a Grove City player since Lexie Arkwright scored 35 points February 18, 2017 at Bethany. Kallock buried a career-high five three-pointers.
Junior center
Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) added 10 points in her first career start for the Wolverines. Senior forward
Allison Podkul (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) added nine points. Cano and Podkul both had seven rebounds each for Grove City, helping Grove City to a 34-32 edge on the glass. Freshman guard
Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) chipped in six rebounds.
Grove City shot 25 of 65 (39 percent) from the floor while Bethany went 22 of 56 (39 percent) on field goal attempts. Each team hit seven three-point goals. Grove City turned over the ball 17 times and Bethany had 12 turnovers.Â
Podkul distributed five assists while freshman
Ashley Durig (Washington, Pa./Trinity) assisted three field goals. Podkul also had three steals.Â
Ashleigh Wheeler led Bethany with 24 points. Grove City led 19-15 after one quarter and 30-26 at halftime. The Wolverines held a 48-43 lead after 30 minutes.
Grove City will host Carnegie Mellon at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in non-conference action.
