BETHANY, W.Va. -- Four Grove City College men's basketball players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon to help lead the Wolverines to an 81-69 road win over Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Hummel Field House.
Freshman guard
Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell) hit 5 of 8 three-point attempts as part of a career-high 15 points for Grove City (4-3, 1-2 PAC). Junior guard
Joshua McCray (Jessup, Md./Ashville College, U.K.) and junior forward
Elijah White (Zelienople, Pa./Portersville Christian) both scored a dozen points while senior guard
Ben Rose (Helena, Ala./Helena) added 10 points. Rose also had a dozen rebounds, marking his second double-double of the season.
Grove City closed the game on a 24-11 run over the final eight minutes. The Wolverines trailed 59-58 but took the lead for good when freshman forward
Russ Gump (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) drained a jumper. Bock later hit consecutive three-pointers to give Grove City a 68-60 lead with six minutes left.
The lead grew to 10 points, 72-62, when freshman forward
Ben Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) scored in the paint. White and Cano each a pair of free throws in the final minute to sew up the victory.
White pulled in eight rebounds and McCray added six rebounds to help Grove City earn a 49-39 edge on the glass. McCray and sophomore forward
Chris Brooks (Canfield, Ohio/South Range) both had three steals. Brooks, McCray, Rose, freshman forward
John Ward (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day) and freshman guard
Chase Yarberough (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) all had two assists.
Grove City shot 39 percent (26 of 66) from the field. Bethany also shot 39 percent (25 of 64) for the game. Both teams had 14 turnovers. Grove City led 35-33 at halftime.
Asa Klimchock led Bethany with 20 points.
Grove City will visit Kenyon at 7 p.m. Tuesday in non-conference action in Gambier, Ohio.
