GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 63-55 victory Wednesday night over visiting Waynesburg at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City (4-1 overall) led 34-31 at halftime and held a 43-37 lead midway through the third quarter. The Wolverines used a 12-1 edge to take command of the game as Grove City held Waynesburg without a field goal for nearly six minutes.
Sophomore forward
Kat Goetz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) sparked the run with a jumper while freshman guard
Jaden Davinsizer (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) followed with a three-pointer. Back-to-back baskets by freshman center
Kiley Ingram (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) pushed the lead to 52-38 at the end of the third quarter.
Junior guard
Megan Kallock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to give Grove City a 17-point lead, its largest of the night.
Davinsizer fired in five three-pointers on the way to a career-high 15 points. Kallock tossed in 14 points and Goetz finished with a dozen points. Senior forward
Allison Podkul (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) added nine points and a team-leading 13 rebounds.
Goetz added eight rebounds, helping Grove City post a 52-50 edge on the glass.
Grove City shot 25 of 79 (32 percent) from the field for the game. Waynesburg (0-7, 0-2 PAC) shot 18 of 62 (29 percent). Waynesburg had 27 turnovers while Grove City turned over the ball 17 times.
Kallock, freshman
Clara Hannon (Grove City, Pa/Grove City) and freshman guard
Haley Hertzler (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) all had three assists. Freshman guard
Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) recorded six steals and Goetz added three steals. Goetz also blocked two shots.
Brooke Fuller led Waynesburg with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Grove City led 25-20 after one quarter.
Grove City will visit Bethany at 1 p.m. Saturday in conference play.
