Balanced offense lifts Wolverines to home win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four Grove City College men's basketball players scored in double figures Tuesday evening to help lead the Wolverines to a 72-54 victory over visiting Houghton in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Senior guard Ben Rose (Helena, Ala./Helena) and junior forward Elijah White (Zelienople, Pa./Portersville Christian) both posted 12 points for Grove City (3-2) while freshman guard Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell) fired in 11 points.

Freshman center Christian Wiseman (Martinsville, Ind./Indian Creek) added 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor. Fellow freshman Ben Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) chipped in nine points. Overall, 11 men scored for Grove City.

Rose also pulled in a dozen rebounds while Cano added nine rebounds. White and junior Joshua McCray (Jessup, Md./Ashville College, U.K.) each collected seven rebounds as Grove City held a 65-37 edge on the glass. 

Grove City led 34-29 at halftime and led by no fewer than six points in the second half. The Wolverines broke open the game with an 8-0 run midway through the second half as Grove City extended the lead to 64-46. Bock scored the first six points in the run and White capped the flurry with a jumper. 

Defensively, Grove City held Houghton (0-5) to 19 of 69 (28 percent) shooting from the field. Grove City hit 31 of 77 (40 percent) attempts. 

Rose and McCray both had five assists. Wiseman blocked three shots and freshman guard Chase Yarberough (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) blocked two shots. Grove CIty had 14 turnovers while Houghton turned over the ball eight times.

Jajaun Preaster led Houghton with 18 points.

Grove City returns to action December 1 with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Waynesburg.
