HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team posted 51 points over the final two quarters Saturday afternoon on the way to an 87-58 win at Houghton in non-conference action at The Nielsen Center. Grove City trailed 37-36 at halftime before charging back for the victory.
Junior guard
Megan Kallock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) fired in a career-high 26 points to help pace the Wolverines (3-1). It is the third straight game in which Kallock has scored a career high. Sophomore forward
Kat Goetz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) added 16 points for the Wolverines on 7-of-12 shooting.
Houghton scored the first seven points of the second half to open up a 44-36 lead but Grove City countered with an 11-2 run. Goetz sparked the run with consecutive jumpers while back-to-back layups from junior center
Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) and freshman guard
Clara Hannon (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) trimmed the lead to 46-45.
Senior forward
Allison Podkul (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) gave Grove City the lead with a jumper at the 2:29 mark of the third quarter. Grove City's lead swelled to 56-49 at the end of the period as freshman guard
Haley Hertzler (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) scored at the horn.
Grove City broke open the game with a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter. Kallock and Goetz combined for 10 of the 13 points and sophomore guard
Abby Glass (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) buried a three-pointer.
Grove City went 12 of 22 (54.6 percent) from the field in the fourth quarter. The Wolverines held Houghton to a 2-for-14 (14.3 percent) outing in the final quarter. Overall, Grove City shot 34 of 77 (44 percent) for the game while Houghton finished 19 of 49 (39 percent) on field goals.
Cano finished with nine points for the Wolverines on 4-of-5 shooting. Podkul added eight points. Podkul and Goetz each had six rebounds to help Grove City attain a 47-27 edge on the glass.

Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) had five assists. Goetz and Hertzler each tallied three assists. Polczynski also recorded five steals and Podkul had four thefts. Grove City forced 27 Houghton turnovers. The Wolverines turned over the ball 16 times.
Amanda Jackson led Houghton with 19 points.
Grove City will open its home schedule Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Pitt-Greensburg in the Grove City College Arena.
