ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped an 85-65 decision Saturday afternoon at Penn State Behrend in the championship game of the Penn State Behrend Tip-Off Tournament, held at the Junker Center.
Junior guard
Megan Kallock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) fired in a career-high 17 points to help pace Grove City (1-1) while senior forward
Allison Podkul (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) poured in 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Freshman guard
Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) tossed in 10 points for the Wolverines.
Grove City shot 33 percent (27 of 81) from the field in the game while Behrend (3-1) went 32 of 67 (48 percent). The Lions also drained 9 of 16 three-point attempts.
Junior center
Nina Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) hauled in a team-high seven rebounds and Polczynski recorded six rebounds. Penn State Behrend held a 49-43 rebound edge.Â
All-Tournament Team selection Podkul dished out three assists. Polczynski recorded seven thefts. Grove City forced 23 turnovers but only generated 14 points off of the turnovers. The Wolverines turned over the ball 19 times, leading to 25 Behrend points.
Behrend led 24-19 after one quarter and pushed the lead to 46-32 at halftime. Caitlin Carnouche led Penn State Behrend with 25 points.Â
Grove City will visit Franciscan in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Steubenville.
