Grove City downs W&J on Senior Night

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team closed the home portion of the regular season schedule Thursday night by earning a 22-25, 25-13, 25-19, 25-21 victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Washington & Jefferson on Senior Night in the Grove City College Arena.

Junior Faith Keating (Troy, Mich./Troy) paced Grove City's balanced offensive attack with 15 kills. Sophomore Anna DeGraaf (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) added 13 kills on only 23 attacks, good for a .435 hitting percentage. Sophomore Eloise Augustine (West Chester, Ohio/Mars Hill) posted nine kills and senior Carrie Dill (Mount Pleasant, Ohio/Buckeye Local) pounded out seven kills.

Freshman setter Katie Kenlein (Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark) served a career-high five aces. That also matched the single-match season high for the Wolverines. Augustine and freshman libero Mya Lathem (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge) both added two aces.

Kenlein distributed 24 aces and fellow rookie setter Kennedy Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) chalked up 21 assists.

Keating recorded a team-leading 20 digs and Lathem added 17 digs. Augustine notched a dozen digs while DeGraaf and Kerr each contributed eight digs. Freshman Audrey Donnelly (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge) posted three blocks. DeGraaf, Keating and junior Robyn Collier (Corona, Calif./Carnegie Riverside) all had two blocks.

Prior to the match, Grove City honored its three-player senior class: Dill, defensive specialist Emily Rohrs and right side Amanda Schmidt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian).

Kerr is the other Grove City player to have five aces in a match this season. She achieved that feat September 11 against La Roche and then September 28 at Waynesburg. Kenlein now leads Grove City with 39 aces and Kerr has 38.

Grove City (18-10, 11-6 PAC) concludes the regular season Saturday afternoon at Geneva. The match will start at 12 p.m. in Beaver Falls. A win will give Grove City the No. 4 seed in next week's conference tournament. Otherwise, Thiel (11-7 PAC) will be the fourth seed in the tournament. Grove City will face Thiel in next Tuesday night's quarterfinals, either in Grove City or Greenville.
