STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 6-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 2-1 win Wednesday evening at conference co-leader Franciscan (9-4, 6-1 PAC) at Trinity Health System Field.
Grove City (8-7 overall) broke a 1-1 tie at 86:14 when junior forward
Sam Belitz (Independence, Ohio/Independence) scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season. Belitz blasted the ball into the upper left corner of the net after receiving a pass from freshman forward
Jordan Rebsamen (Charlotte, N.C./Carmel Christian).
Rebsamen also assisted Grove City's first goal Wednesday evening as his feed set up junior defender
Aaron McFeaters (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) at the 52:45 mark. McFeaters recorded his seventh goal of the season. That ranks second on the team, behind Belitz's 10 goals.
Franciscan tied the match at 54:39 on a Mikey Irvin goal.
Grove City peppered Franciscan with 14 shots on goal. Overall, Grove City held a 21-12 edge in total shots. The Wolverines had nine corner kicks while Franciscan netted five corners.
Junior goalkeeper
Jesse Greyshock (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) made two saves in the second half to earn the win. Senior
Luke Greenway (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) stopped two shots in recording a scoreless first half for the Wolverines. Greenway has an 0.22 goals-against average over his last nine appearances.
Belitz now ranks second in the conference with 10 goals. He leads the league with four game-winning goals.
Grove City will conclude the regular season with consecutive conference matches at home. The Wolverines host Bethany at 4 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day at Don Lyle Field. Next Wednesday, Grove City hosts Saint Vincent at 7 p.m.
