GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team improved to 5-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 5-1 victory Saturday night over visiting Chatham (6-6-1, 3-3 PAC) at Don Lyle Field.
Junior defender
Aaron McFeaters (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) scored twice in the first half for Grove City (7-7, 5-1 PAC) while junior forward
Sam Belitz (Independence, Ohio/Independence) added a goal and an assist.Â
Senior forward
Holton Gwaltney (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and senior midfielder
Kennan Roewer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Classical Academy) also scored in the victory.
McFeaters opened the scoring at 22:01 when he scored off an assist by freshman defender
Luke Kimmich (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional). McFeaters then pushed the lead to 2-0 when he scored with five seconds left in the first half. Senior midfielder
Bryce Deaven (Newport, Pa./Greenwood) assisted the goal.
Chatham's Ryan Tahbaz cut the lead in half by scoring at 53:36. Grove City countered, however, by scoring three times in less than 10 minutes. Belitz restored the two-goal lead by scoring at 54:09. Sophomore forward
Hunter Hardin (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Freeport) provided the assist on Belitz's goal.
Gwaltney extended the Wolverines' lead to 4-1 at 61:19 as he scored his third goal of the season. Belitz assisted Gwaltney's goal. Roewer then closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 63:43.
Grove City outshot Chatham 23-11, including a 17-3 margin in the second half. The Wolverines registered 11 shots on goal while Chatham had eight shots on goal. Grove City had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
Senior
Luke Greenway (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) earned the win in goal for the Wolverines by making six saves in the first half. Junior
Jesse Greyshock (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) made one save over the final 45 minutes.
Grove City will visit Franciscan at 5 p.m. Wednesday in conference action.
