GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision in 11 innings Monday afternoon to visiting Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Jack Behringer Field. Bethany (22-11, 12-8 PAC) broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 11th when Ethan Young tripled in Brandon Wagner.
Grove City loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 11th but could not tie or win the game.
Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when freshman right fielder
Colton Lineman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) doubled in sophomore left fielder
Matt Knauer (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton).
Bethany pulled ahead 2-1 in the fourth but Grove City (22-11, 12-5 PAC) tied the game in the seventh inning when senior DH
Bobby Dulay (Youngstown, Ohio/Ursuline) scored on an error.
Senior center fielder
Shane Hammel (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) also doubled for the Wolverines while senior catcher
Derek Boyle (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and senior third baseman
Micah Burke (Gilbert, Ariz./E.V.A.C.) both had two hits.
Junior reliever
Austin Wacker (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) struck out six men in six innings. He allowed three hits and one run. Wacker dropped to 2-2. Sophomore starting pitcher
Lake Pry (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) allowed two runs in five innings. He allowed five hits and struck out three.
Grove City will visit Waynesburg for a single conference game Wednesday at 3 p.m.
