Pry, Bini blank Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Sophomore pitcher Lake Pry (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) fired a three-hit shutout in Game One while senior John Bini (Staten Island, N.Y./Xavierian) followed with a six-hit shutout to help lead the Grove City College baseball team to a doubleheader sweep at Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Westminster. The Wolverines won the opener, 4-0, then rolled to a 10-0 triumph in Game Two.

Pry allowed only three singles in seven innings and faced only 26 total batters. He struck out one and walked one while throwing 97 pitches. Bini needed only 87 pitches to earn his first win of the season. He permitted six singles and struck out three in seven innings.

Grove City (15-8, 5-2 PAC) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opener by scoring twice in the top of the second inning. Senior center fielder Shane Hammel (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) scored on a groundout by sophomore second baseman Jesse Clary (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian). Senior catcher Derek Boyle (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) pushed the lead to 2-0 when he singled in junior shortstop Bobby Abbott (Westfield, N.J./Westfield).

In the sixth, Hammel singled in junior first baseman Matt Dayton (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton). Senior third baseman Micah Burke (Gilbert, Ariz./E.V.A.C.) scored on a subsequent error. Hammel finished 2 for 3 for Grove City.

Grove City scored in each of the final six innings in Game Two. Abbott's fielder's choice scored sophomore DH Bubba Hamilton (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) in the second inning, opening the scoring. In the third, freshman right fielder Colton Lineman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) singled in Clary and then came home on a Hammel single. One inning later, Lineman squeezed home Abbott.

The Wolverines then broke open the game with a four-run fifth inning. Hammel singled home Burke. Hammel then scored on a wild pitch. Abbott doubled in senior left fielder Travis Auth (Medina, Ohio/Medina) while Clary's sacrifice fly scored Abbott.

Burke belted a solo homer in the sixth inning, pushing the lead to 9-0. Auth scored on an error in the seventh.

Abbott, Auth, Clary and sophomore catcher Tanner Orner (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) all doubled. Auth, Hammel and Orner all had two hits.

The Grove City pitching staff now has five shutouts this season. That figure leads the conference, as do Grove City's six complete games.

Grove City will visit Thiel at 4 p.m. Wednesday for a single conference game in Greenville.
