Wacker CG leads Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior pitcher Austin Wacker (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) fired a nine-inning complete game Tuesday afternoon to help lead the Grove City College baseball team to a 4-2 home win over Chatham in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Jack Behringer Field.

Wacker made his first start of the season Tuesday and struck out seven in his nine innings. He allowed seven hits and walked one while recording Grove City's conference-best eighth complete game of the season. The nine innings are a career high for Wacker.

Grove City (19-10, 9-4 PAC) broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth when junior first baseman Matt Dayton (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) drove in junior shortstop Bobby Abbott (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) with a sacrifice fly.

The Wolverines added an insurance run in the seventh when Abbott's infield grounder scored sophomore pinch runner Matt Knauer (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton).

Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when freshman left fielder Colton Lineman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood) cracked a solo home run on the first pitch of the game. Later in the inning, senior second baseman Bobby Dulay (Youngstown, Ohio/Ursuline) doubled in senior third baseman Micah Burke (Gilbert, Ariz./E.V.A.C.) to give Grove City a 2-0 lead.

Dulay went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles while senior catcher Derek Boyle (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) singled twice.

Grove City will visit Saint Vincent (9-5 PAC) for a conference doubleheader Wednesday at 1 p.m. The teams will then play a single game Thursday at 1 p.m. in Grove City.
