Pry throws no-hitter, fans 13

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Grove City College sophomore pitcher Lake Pry (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) threw the Wolverines' first no-hitter in 19 years Thursday to help lead Grove City to a 10-0 victory over Penn State New Kensington at Lake Myrtle Field. The game went eight innings instead of the scheduled nine innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Pry struck out 13 batters and allowed only one walk. He faced 25 batters, one over the minimum. He is the first Grove City's pitcher to throw a no-hitter since May 3, 2000, when J.G. Louden no-hit Oberlin in the season finale. Pry's 13 strikeouts are the most for a Grove City pitcher since Erik Arnesen mowed down 13 Pitt-Greensburg batters March 18, 2006.

Offensively, senior third baseman Micah Burke (Gilbert, Ariz./E.V.A.C.) paced Grove City's 14-hit attack by going 4 for 5 with a triple. Freshman left fielder Colton Lineman (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood), freshman right fielder Joey Kolb (Riverside, Calif./Arlington) and freshman second baseman Tate Ostrowski (Essex, Mass./Covenant Christian) all had two hits each.

Junior first baseman Matt Dayton (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and freshman DH Alec Bernard (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) both doubled in the win.

Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning when junior shortstop Bobby Abbott (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) singled in sophomore catcher Tanner Orner (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley). In the third, Lineman scored on a groundout by senior DH Travis Auth (Medina, Ohio/Medina). Orner then drove in senior center fielder Shane Hammel (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) with a groundout.

Dayton doubled in Ostrowski in the sixth inning to give Grove City a 5-0 lead. Burke scored Grove City's sixth run when he came home on Orner's sixth-inning groundout. The Wolverines then sealed the win with four runs in the eighth inning. Lineman and Burke both had run-scoring singles while Hammel lofted a sacrifice fly. Bernard doubled in Lineman to close out the scoring.

The Wolverines (3-4) will face Emerson at 12:30 p.m. Friday in Kissimmee, Fla.
