BETHANY, W.Va. -- Senior pitcher
Ben Finlan (State College, Pa./State College) had a strong outing on the mound, but it wasn't quite enough as the Grove City College baseball team was shut out for just the second time this season in a 1-0 loss at Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Bethany Park.
In his first complete game of the season, Finlan scattered eight hits and just one run over eight innings of action while matching his season-high with five strikeouts. Freshman
Matt Dayton (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) had two of the five hits on the day for Grove City (9-10, 6-3 PAC)
Finlan's lone blemish came in the bottom of the first, as Bethany (8-11-1, 3-5) got a one-out single from John Lee and a two-out hit from Tyler Frazee to take a 1-0 lead. Grove City's best chance came in the top of the seventh, as the Wolverines loaded the bases with one out, but Bison pitcher Nick Gross induced a double-play to escape the jam.
Grove City is scheduled to return to action on Friday, visiting W&J for a single, nine-inning PAC game at 4:30 p.m.
