GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped both ends of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Thiel. Thiel pulled out a 3-1 win in the opener and then secured a 4-3 Game Two victory in eight innings at Tomcat Park.
In Game Two, Grove City trailed 3-1 in the top of the seventh but sophomore
Travis Auth (Medina, Ohio/Medina) blasted a game-tying, pinch-hit two-run homer with one out.Â
In the bottom of the eighth, Thiel broke the 3-3 tie when Grove City committed a throwing error while trying to complete an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded.Â
Grove City (8-9, 5-2 PAC) trailed 3-0 entering the sixth but junior left fielder
Tyler Graham (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) led off with a single and later scored on a groundout by senior catcher
Andy Fritz (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch).

David Laylock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland) went 2 for 4 while sophomore right fielder
Shane Hammel (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) added a double.

Micah Burke (Gilbert, Ariz./E.V.A.C.) pitched seven innings for Grove City, allowing three earned runs. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Sophomores
Derek Boyle (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and
Phil Bell (Poland, Ohio/Heartland Christian) both pitched in relief with Boyle taking the setback.

Nolan Myers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) singled in senior first baseman
Matt Waugaman (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny). Thiel tied the game in the fourth, then scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to pull ahead.Â
Myers went 2 for 3 while Waugaman doubled. Freshman pitcher
Austin Wacker (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) pitched a complete game, striking out seven men in six innings. He allowed two earned runs and five hits.Â
Grove City will host Thiel at 4 p.m. Monday in a single conference game at R. Jack Behringer Field.
