Hutton leads Wolverines past W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Senior midfielder Lindsay Hutton (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) scored her third goal of the season and senior goalkeeper Trishae Winters (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) notched her third shutout as the Grove City College women's soccer team earned an important 1-0 victory over Washington and Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference road action on Friday night at Alexandre Stadium.

Hutton scored in the 29th minute, collecting a loose ball in the box off a Wolverine corner kick and powering it past W&J's Allison Rinehimer to give Grove City (7-4, 2-1 PAC) a 1-0 lead. That would prove to be enough, as Winters came up with four saves in goal to earn the clean slate. The shutout is the 12th of Winters' career, giving her sole possession of second place on Grove City's all-time list behind former standout Kristi Lathrop's 13 from 2012-2015.

The Presidents (5-5-1, 0-2 PAC) started strong, recording the match's first three shots, but Grove City had a strong five minute build starting in the 24th minute, recording three shots on goal before Hutton broke through with the lone goal of the match.

For the match, W&J outshot Grove City 16-8, but the Wolverines put seven of their eight shots on goal compared to just five for the Presidents.

Grove City returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Geneva at 4 p.m. in the second match of a PAC doubleheader with the Wolverine men's soccer team.
