Wolverines edged on road

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College football team dropped a 21-14 decision Saturday night to archrival Geneva in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Reeves Field.

Grove City forged a 14-14 tie with 3:39 left in regulation when senior wide receiver Brett Pinson (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Brett Laffoon (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) on third and goal. Freshman kicker Mitch Causer (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont-Hilltop) kicked the tying extra point.

However, Geneva countered quickly as Trewon Marshall scored on a 13-yard run with 2:27 remaining. Nick Monteleone's 66-yard run on the preceding play set up the touchdown run.

Grove City trailed 7-0 at halftime but tied the game with 5:28 remaining in the third quarter on Laffoon's 34-yard touchdown strike to Pinson on a post pattern. Pinson finished with eight catches for 89 yards. Laffoon went 16 of 30 for 197 yards.

Geneva quarterback Bryan Stafford reclaimed the lead for the Golden Tornadoes at the 2:39 mark of the third quarter when he scored on a two-yard option keeper.

Junior wide receiver Gabe Greco (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) had five catches for 58 yards for the Wolverines. Freshman running back Wesley Schools (Sparrowbush, N.Y./Port Jervis) led Grove City with 66 rushing yards on 21 carries.

Junior safety Andrew Seifert (Kettering, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) intercepted a pass for Grove City while junior defensive end Jacob Armbrecht (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) recovered a fumble. Armbrecht had eight total tackles, including 2.5 for loss.

Junior linebacker Deion Minor (Sykesville, Md./Century) led Grove City with 12 tackles. Sophomore cornerback Ethan Conto (Bruin, Pa./Karns City) had three tackles for loss.

Stafford led Geneva with 87 rushing yards on 19 carries. He completed 6 of 9 passes for 65 yards. Geneva held a 410-275 edge in total offensive yards.

Grove City will conclude its road schedule next Saturday at conference rival Bethany. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.
