Grove City wins 8th straight

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team capped the 2021 regular season Saturday afternoon by earning a 15-7 home victory over archrival Westminster in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Robert E. Thorn Field. 

Grove City (9-1, 6-0 PAC) took command of the game by scoring nine consecutive goals over the second and third quarters, turning a 5-4 lead into a 14-4 advantage. 

Junior Blaise Bishop (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West), junior Brett Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge), sophomore James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and junior Jed Speers (Medina, Ohio/Medina) all scored twice during that span and junior Michael La Forte (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) also scored a goal.

Petrolle led Grove City with five goals while Speers scored four times. Bishop recorded three goals while Gladstone finished with two scores. La Forte, Petrolle and freshman Griffen Agawa (San Ramon, Calif./California) all assisted two goals. 

Junior Grant Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) won 21 of 23 faceoffs for the Wolverines. He led Grove City with 18 ground balls. Gladstone and sophomore defender Brock Simmons (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) both recorded five ground balls. 

Junior Cody Adams (Pullman, Wash./Pullman), junior Addison Bennett (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) and sophomore Bailey Decker (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) each caused two turnovers. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Jack Petit (Pensacola, Fla./West Florida Tech) made a career-high 15 saves to earn the victory. 

Grove City outshot Westminster, 59-32, including a 28-22 edge in shots on goal. Each team had 25 turnovers. 

Grove City will be the top seed in next week's conference tournament. The Wolverines will host a semifinal Wednesday at Thorn Field.
