Butler native Brett Heckathorn enters his second season as Grove City College head men's volleyball coach. In 2025, Heckathorn guided Grove City to a memorable first season at the varsity level as the Wolverines advanced to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament finals.
Junior middle blocker Tieg Malcolm led the conference in blocks and earned Second Team All-PAC honors following the 2025 season.
A 2019 Grove City graduate, Heckathorn joined the athletic department in July 2019 as assistant volleyball coach and sports information assistant. He has also spent five seasons as Grove City's assistant women's volleyball coach and will continue to remain involved with the women's program.
In fall 2019, he worked with first-year head volleyball coach Leo Sayles in helping guide Grove City to a 20-win season and a trip to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship Tournament. The Wolverines also advanced to the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament for the first time in 12 seasons.Â
In spring 2021, Grove City advanced to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament title match. In fall 2021, Heckathorn helped the Wolverines to a 19-12 overall record and an 11-5 mark in conference play. The Wolverines again returned to the conference tournament semifinals.
As a student at Grove City, Heckathorn captained the College's men's club volleyball team while also helping the program further cement its status as one of the region's top club programs during his four years.
Heckathorn also worked as the College's assistant sports information director from March 2020 until December 2021.
He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business. He also worked as the College's director of intramural sports in December 2021 until his appointment as head men's volleyball coach in spring 2023.
