Trent Laune joined the Grove City coaching staff as defensive coordinator in July 2017 after spending four seasons as defensive coordinator at NCAA Division III Greenville (Ill.) College. He begins his fourth year as Grove City’s defensive coordinator. Laune also coaches the Wolverines' linebackers.
The Grove City defense forced 24 takeaways during the 2019 season, helping the Wolverines tie the single-season program record with nine victories. Grove City went 9-2 and won its second straight Eastern College Athletic Conference James Lynah Bowl game. The Wolverines set a program mark with seven conference victories, as well.
Senior linebacker Luke Salerno led the conference with 110 total tackles and earned All-ECAC Division III honors. Salerno and safety Patrick Mark both earned Second Team All-PAC distinction.
In 2018, he helped Grove City capture the ECAC James Lynah Bowl and post an 8-3 record. Safety Daniel Jackson led the conference with six interceptions while linebackers Ethan Conto and Sam Henson both earned CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition.
Laune joined the Greenville staff in 2013 as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. That year, Laune helped lead Greenville to a 9-1 regular season record and a berth in the NCCAA Victory Bowl. He then coached defensive backs from 2014 to 2016, in addition to his coordinator responsibilities. He also served as the program’s academic coordinator.Â
His collegiate coaching career began at NAIA member Concordia (Neb.) in 2008. He worked as defensive line coach and linebacker coach from 2008 through the 2012 season.
Laune earned his bachelor’s degree from Concordia in 2007. He then added his master’s degree at Concordia in 2013.  Â
