Box Score GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team concluded an undefeated opening week to the 2026 season Saturday evening by battling visiting Calvin to a 2-2 tie in non-conference action at Don Lyle Field.
Calvin took a 1-0 lead two minutes into the match when Matt Torrell converted a penalty kick. Grove City (1-0-2) tied the match at 26:41 when senior midfielder
Noah Gray (Glen Mills, Pa./The Christian Academy) blasted a strike into the upper-right corner from 20 yards out.
The Wolverines then took a 2-1 lead 8:11 into the second half as senior forward
Ryan Merrick (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) headed in a corner kick for his team-leading third goal of 2026. Gray recorded the assist.
Calvin forged a 2-2 tie with 2:36 left in the match, however, on a goal from Pol Sabe.
Grove City held a 12-10 edge in total shots. Calvin had five shots on goal while four of Grove City's shots ended up on goal. Calvin also held an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Keller Krieger (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence) made three saves in his season debut.
Calvin nipped Grove City in double-overtime, 1-0, last November in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Saturday's match marked the second all-time meeting between the programs.
Grove City will host Penn State Behrend at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a non-conference clash.
