WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team remained alive in the 2026 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament by pulling out an 8-7 victory over fourth-seeded Bethany in an elimination game Friday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park.
No. 5 Grove City (21-17) will play Chatham or Washington & Jefferson at 6 p.m. in another elimination game Friday.
Junior left fielder
Dan Luko (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) homered, doubled and drove in a season-high five runs to help pace the Wolverine offense.
Senior first baseman
Colin Marinpetro (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) pulled Grove City into a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the third when his two-run single to right field scored freshman DH
Johnny Reyes (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) and junior center fielder
David Chandler (Leesburg, Va./St. John's).Â
Luko then put Grove City up 4-2 when his double scored Marinpetro and senior second baseman
Nick Sampson (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township).
Luko came home when freshman third baseman
Nick Remish (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) singled. One inning later, Luko launched a three-run home run down the left-field line to give Grove City an 8-2 lead. Sampson and Chandler scored on Luko's blast, his fourth of the season.
Bethany scored twice in the fifth inning, then added single runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings. The Bison loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but freshman pitcher
Graham Romer (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) retired Gian DeGenova to end the game.Â
Romer earned his third save of the season. He preserved the win for sophomore reliever
Corey Veverka (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg). Veverka (2-3) pitched a season-high four innings. He struck out three and allowed three runs.Â
Junior pitcher
Bryce Trischler (Mars, Pa./Shady Side Academy) started and pitched two innings. Freshman
Caz Ostrowski (Essex, Mass./Covenant Christian) pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief and allowed two runs.Â
W&J defeated Grove City in the opening round Wednesday, 5-1. Grove City has not yet played Chatham in the tournament. The Wolverines opened the conference schedule March 21 by sweeping the Cougars in a doubleheader at Jack Behringer Field.
