GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped a 5-4 decision in eight innings Thursday afternoon at College Field to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thiel in the completion of a March 26 suspended game.
Grove City (14-6, 6-4) trailed 1-0 in the top of the third game when lightning halted the game in Greenville last month. The Wolverines trailed 2-0 entering the fourth inning Thursday before surging ahead with a four-run fourth inning.
Sophomore pitcher
Alivia Lantzy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) opened the top of the fourth with a double, then scored Grove City's first run when junior first baseman
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) belted a double. Freshman DP
Cora Myers (Blanchard, Pa./Central Mountain) tied the game by singling in freshman pinch runner
Zoie Bhat (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany).
The Wolverines then grabbed a 4-2 lead when Myers and freshman second baseman
Zoey Lindner (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) both scored on a two-run single by sophomore right fielder
Sydney McBride (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield).
Thiel tied the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, then pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
Lindner and Myers both went 2 for 4 as Grove City finished with 11 hits.
Lantzy pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs. She struck out six. Meadors pitched the eighth and took the setback.
Grove City will visit Bethany for a conference doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
