GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's tennis team earned a berth in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament finals by earning a 4-0 home win Thursday afternoon over No. 3 seed Franciscan (8-14) at Walters-Zbell Courts.
Second-seeded Grove City (9-4) took a 1-0 lead by winning twice in doubles action. Senior
Isaac DeMan (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and sophomore
Ryan Kirkpatrick (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) picked up a 6-2 win at second doubles while junior
Eric Jordan (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) and sophomore
Garrett Ranney (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) teamed up for a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
DeMan, Kirkpatrick and senior
Wesley Morgan (Loganville, Ga./Homeschooled) then clinched the team victory by winning singles matches in straight sets.
Grove City will visit top-seeded Allegheny in the championship match Saturday at 1 p.m. Allegheny blanked No. 5 seed Washington & Jefferson in the other semifinal played Thursday afternoon, 4-0.
The tournament champion earns the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
