Burling crowned medalist in Meadville

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Grove City College freshman Emily Burling (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) captured medalist honors Saturday at the weather-shortened Allegheny Spring Invitational, held at Meadville Country Club. Storms halted the tournament before all players finished 18. All 28 competitors had completed the first 11 holes and Burling posted an even-par 45 to win the event by six strokes.

Junior Lauren Kardos (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) carded a 51 through 11 holes to tie for second place overall. Senior Hailey Muñoz (Sparta, N.J./Morris Catholic) tied for 11th with an 11-hole score of 57.

Senior Bekah Gaehring (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) took 22nd with a 65 through 11 holes. Sophomore Gabrielle Kinneer (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) shot 66 through her first 11 holes, placing 24th. Kinneer tied with sophomore Sydney Goettel (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) as Goettel also recorded a 66.

Seton Hill won the team title with a 216 team total. Grove City took second with 218.

Grove City will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Spring Championships next Friday and Saturday, April 24-25, at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
