GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped the opener of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon to visiting Geneva, 5-2, at College Field. Lightning halted the nightcap in the top of the fifth inning with Geneva owning a 5-2 lead.
Grove City (15-10, 7-8) broke through in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game One when junior
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) cracked a two-run single that scored freshman shortstop
Lily Meidl (Pataskala, Ohio/Licking Heights) and freshman pinch runner
Zoey Lindner (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk).
Meidl went 2 for 3 while junior left fielder
Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) doubled and singled.
Meadors pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed five earned runs. Junior
Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and allowed one run.Â
Grove City will visit Geneva next Tuesday to finish the suspended game, as per the conference's reverse site rule.
Grove City continues its homestand Saturday when the Wolverines host Franciscan for a 1 p.m. conference doubleheader.
