Grove City splits at home

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Monday afternoon with visiting Chatham at College Field. Grove City (15-9, 7-7) earned a 5-4 win in the opener while Chatham (11-21, 5-9) took the second game in five innings, 13-1.

In Game One, Grove City jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Freshman first baseman Cora Myers (Blanchard, Pa./Central Mountain) and freshman DP Zoey Lindner (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) both cracked two-run doubles while junior pitcher Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) added a run-scoring single.

Myers finished 3 for 4 with two doubles while senior catcher Kristin Tesch (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) doubled and singled.

Jackson (2-0) earned the win by pitching a complete game. She allowed seven hits in seven innings while striking out three batters.

Chatham took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game Two, added an unearned run in the second inning and then took command of the game with five runs in the third inning.

Grove City broke through in the fourth inning when Jackson scored on a single from sophomore right fielder Sydney McBride (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield).

Jackson finished 2 for 3 while junior left fielder Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) doubled and singled. Freshman shortstop Lily Meidl (Pataskala, Ohio/Licking Heights) went 2 for 2.

Sophomore pitcher Ellie Day (New Marshfield, Ohio/Alexander) started and pitched four innings. She took the defeat. Sophomore Elena Tylka (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and Jackson both pitched in relief in the fifth inning.
