LITTLE RIVER, S.C. -- The Grove City College softball team opened the 2026 season Monday afternoon by earning a 3-2 victory in eight innings over State University of New York-Delhi.
Grove City broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth inning when junior first baseman
Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) doubled in senior center fielder
Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion). Delhi had the tying run at third base in the bottom of the eighth inning but junior pitcher
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) retired the final two batters to seal the win.
Meadors (1-0) picked up the victory by throwing a complete game. She struck out 13 batters while yielding one earned run and four hits.
Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Anthony singled with two outs, went to third on a Meadors single and then scored when sophomore third baseman
Sydney Shay (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) laced a single up the middle.
In the fifth inning, sophomore right fielder
Sydney McBride (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) led off with a single and scored on an Anthony double.

Kristin Tesch (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) doubled and singled while Anthony finished 2 for 4. Sophomore second baseman
Alivia Lantzy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) went 2 for 3 in her Grove City debut.
Grove City will face Wilkes at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Wolverines will then square off with St. Elizabeth at 12 p.m. Tuesday.
