GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Grove City College baseball opened the northern portion of its 2026 schedule Saturday by dropping a non-conference doubleheader at DePauw. The Tigers won the opener, 8-7, then pulled out a 12-9 win over Grove City (5-8) in the nightcap.
Grove City trailed 8-2 entering the ninth inning of the opener before rallying for five runs. Freshman third baseman
Nick Remish (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) and sophomore pinch hitter
Kallen Durbin (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) both laced run-scoring singles. Remish came home on a sacrifice fly by sophomore DH
John McIntyre (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) while two more runs scored on an error.
However, Grove City stranded the tying and go-ahead runs on base.
Senior first baseman
Colin Marinpetro (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) and junior right fielder
Caleb Backos (Troy, Mich./Bloomfield Christian) both went 2 for 4.
Senior pitcher
Kenny Lavrich (Franklin, Pa./Cranberry) started and pitched three innings. He allowed six runs and took the defeat. Freshman
Bryce Trischler (Mars, Pa./Shady Side Academy) allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings of relief. Freshman
Wyatt Hopson (Middletown, Md./Middletown) closed out the eighth.
Remish went 3 for 4 with a home run, three runs scored and three runs batted in while Marinpetro doubled twice in Game Two. Backos doubled and singled and freshman shortstop
Kyle Rhineberger (Perry, Ohio/Perry) added two hits.
Grove City trailed 9-6 in the seventh inning but assembled a three-run rally. Marinpetro led off with a double and after Remish walked, Backos belted a double. Remish later scored on a Durbin single while Backos scored the tying run on a groundout by sophomore left fielder
Ben Barnes (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth).
DePauw broke the tie with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, however.
Freshman pitcher
Graham Romer (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) started and pitched 3 2/3 innings. He allowed seven runs. Freshman
Noah Mackie (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief and absorbed the defeat. He permitted four runs while striking out three. Rookie
Jack Guiffre (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) gave up one run in one inning.
The Wolverines are scheduled to open their home schedule Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Wilson. Presidents' Athletic Conference play begins next Saturday at home against Chatham. The doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. at Jack Behringer Field.
