NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fired in a dozen three-pointers and forced 25 Westminster turnovers Wednesday night as the visiting Wolverines rolled to a 74-43 victory over Westminster in Presidents' Athletic Conference North Division action at Memorial Field House.
Sophomore forward
Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) fired in 17 points for Grove City (16-8, 10-5) while junior guard
Sarah Pifer (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) went 4 for 5 from behind the three-point line on her way to a 12-point outing.
Junior guard
Alexa McDole (Evans City, Pa./Mars) added 10 points for Grove City, which outscored Westminster 41-21 over the final two quarters.
Grove City led 22-13 after one quarter and pushed the lead to 16 points early in the second period as junior guard
Bethany Thompson (Exeter Township, Pa./High Point Baptist) drained a three-pointer and senior center
Emma Ulmer (Milton, Pa./Northumberland Christian) followed with consecutive field goals in the paint.
Westminster (9-15, 6-9) closed to within 31-22 but senior guard
Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) gave Grove City a 33-22 halftime lead with a layup in the final minute.
Two Pifer three-pointers and back-to-back McDole jumpers extended Grove City's lead to 49-28 with four minutes left in the third quarter. Hudson then scored the final eight points of the quarter as Grove City carried a 60-37 lead into the final 10-minute period.
Hudson led Grove City with a game-high nine rebounds. Thompson collected five rebounds as Grove City finished with a 48-30 edge on the glass. Grove City limited Westminster to three offensive rebounds and no second chance points.
Grove City shot 28 of 70 (40 percent) from the field. Westminster shot 37 percent (18 of 49).
Hasley handed out five assists while senior center
Katie Hoff (Crafton, Pa./Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) assisted on three field goals. McDole recorded four steals and Ulmer blocked two shots.
Grove City finished the game with 16 turnovers.
Grace Cano led Westminster with 14 points.
The Wolverines will visit Thiel at 1 p.m. Saturday in the regular season finale. Grove City will clinch the North Division title with a win, along with home-court advantage in the upcoming conference tournament's first two rounds.
