Randle ties record in Senior Day triumph

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Senior guard Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) tied the Grove City College men's basketball single-game three-point record on his way to a career-high 32 points Saturday afternoon while junior center Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) chalked up a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double as the Wolverines closed their home schedule with a 94-73 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Waynesburg in the Grove City College Arena.

Senior forward Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) added 19 points for Grove City, which pulled into a tie for second place in the conference's North Division with Allegheny.

Randle went 8 for 16 from behind the three-point line Saturday, tying the record first set by Brian Giesler at Bethany in December 2013. Randle's 32 points are the most by a Grove City player this year and represents the first 30-point outing for a Grove City player since Christenson's 35-point outing January 22, 2025 against Westminster.

Consecutive field goals from junior guard Colton Martin (Centerburg, Ohio/Centerburg) and Johncour gave Grove City (10-13, 7-7) a 30-15 lead midway through the first half. Waynesburg trimmed the lead to 45-38 by halftime.

Grove City held a 72-64 lead with six minutes remaining, then broke open the game with a 19-2 blitz. Sophomore guard Anderson Skelton (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) sparked the run with a putback. Martin drained a jumper, junior forward Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) scored in the paint and Johncour recorded a three-point play.

Four Christenson free throws, two Martin foul shots and a Randle dunk closed out the run.

Grove City recorded 24 offensive rebounds while Waynesburg had 18 defensive rebounds. Overall, Grove City finished with a 55-21 margin on the glass. Haller and Randle both had eight rebounds while Christenson and Martin each had seven rebounds.

Grove City shot 46 percent (35 of 77) from the field for the game. The Yellow Jackets shot 21 of 52 (40 percent) overall.

Haller recorded four assists. Johncour and Skelton each blocked a pair of shots. Grove City had nine turnovers while Waynesburg had seven turnovers.

Jackson Rhodes led Waynesburg (7-16, 3-11) with 21 points.

Grove City honored its four-man senior class -- Christenson, Randle, forward David Olinger (Glenside, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) and Christian Suceveanu (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Loyola) -- prior to Saturday's game.

Grove City's plus-34 rebound margin marked the largest for the Wolverines since a 65-27 rebounding edge January 14, 2023 against Washington & Jefferson. Johncour's 21 points are a career high. Christenson now has 1,240 career points, good for eighth in program history. His 443 points this year are No. 15 on Grove City's single-season list.

Randle went 14 for 22 from behind the three-point line this week in Grove City's two wins. He went 6 of 6 in a 77-65 win Wednesday night over Allegheny. He ranks seventh on Grove City's single-season list with 60 three-point goals.

Grove City closes the regular season next week with a pair of road games in North Division action. The Wolverines visit division leader Westminster at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The regular season concludes next Saturday at Thiel.
