GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four Grove City College women's soccer players scored goals in the first half Friday afternoon as the Wolverines helped kickoff Homecoming Weekend on campus with a 4-1 home win over Chatham in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Don Lyle Field.
Grove City rolled up a 20-4 edge in shots in the first half while scoring all four goals in a 22-minute span.Â
Freshman midfielder
Ana Hahn (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) gave Grove City (8-1-2, 4-0-1) a 1-0 lead when she scored her first collegiate goal at 23:22. Senior forward
Hannah Plunkard (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) and senior defender
Meghan Tischler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) assisted Hahn's score.Â
Plunkard doubled the lead at 31:50 with her career-best sixth goal of the season. Sophomore forward
Emily Horst (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) assisted Plunkard's goal, which turned out to be the game-winner.Â
Chatham (3-6-1, 2-3-0) cut the lead in half on a goal from Amelia Anderson at 32:24. Grove City quickly answered, however, as senior midfielder
Emma Dailey (East Brady, Pa./Karns City) drilled in her first goal of the season.Â
Sophomore midfielder
Sasha Sansone (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) closed the scoring flurry with 15 seconds left when she registered her second goal of the season. Junior forward
Marina Hahn (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) assisted the Sansone score.
Grove City finished with match with a 30-5 overall edge in shots, including a 15-2 margin in shots on goal. The Wolverines had five corner kicks while Chatham did not have a corner kick.
Senior goalie
Maddie Mills (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) played the first half for Grove City and made one save. Sophomore
Ella Lotz (McKeesport, Pa./South Allegheny) played the second half to close out the victory.
The Grove City women's soccer team held its Breast Cancer Awareness program in conjunction with the match Friday. The team played the match in memory of former Grove City women's soccer standout Jody (Swauger-Simms '98) Armstrong, who passed away from breast cancer earlier this year.Â
The Wolverines will host longtime rival Westminster at 7 p.m. Wednesday in conference play at Don Lyle Field.
