GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team secured its sixth straight Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday night by earning a 22-7 win over visiting Chatham in the conference tournament title game at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Top-seeded Grove City will advance to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament as the conference's automatic qualifier.
The Wolverines led 7-2 after one quarter and extended the lead to 12-4 by halftime. Grove City trailed briefly as Chatham's Jacob Lubawy opened the scoring 60 seconds into the game. The Wolverines tied the game six seconds later, however, as graduate student
Luke Rios (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) won the faceoff, sprinted downfield and scored.
Senior attacks
Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and
Zachary Hougan (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) also scored in the first four minutes, as did sophomore attack
Sawyer Strong (Westfield, Ind./Westfield). Blythe added two more goals in the period while junior attack
Stewart McClain (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) fired in the first of his five goals.
McClain led Grove City in the scoring column while Blythe scored four times. Hougan, sophomore midfielder
Tyson Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and sophomore attack
Davis Schneider (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton Academy) registered a pair of goals.
The Wolverines also received goals from junior defender

Sam Stevenson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), graduate student midfielder

Hougan recorded a team-leading four assists. Bui and sophomore midfielder
Evan Curry (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) both assisted two goals. Blythe, Jayne, Stevenson, senior midfielder
Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame), senior midfielder
Trey Zabroski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), junior goalie
Tyler Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and sophomore midfielder
Breck Peacock (Wayne, Ill./Wheaton Academy) each tallied an assist.
The Wolverines amassed a 56-31 edge in shots, including a 43-25 margin in shots on goal. Grove City had 30 turnovers while second-seeded Chatham (13-6) committed 26 miscues.
Senior defender
Benjamin Griffin (Asheboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) caused three turnovers for the Wolverines. Bui, Zabroski and graduate student goalie
Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) all caused a pair of turnovers.
Lehberg won 11 of 13 faceoffs and finshed with a team-high 10 ground balls. Rios won 11 of 14 faceoff opportunities. He recorded seven ground balls.
Stone earned the win by stopping 12 shots over the first three quarters. Gladstone made six saves over the final 15 minutes.
Grove City will make its sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Championship Tournament. The pairings for this year's 40-team tournament will be announced Sunday night.
