No. 25 Baldwin Wallace tops Grove City

BEREA, Ohio -- The Grove City College softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at No. 25 Baldwin Wallace. Baldwin Wallace secured a 7-1 win in the opener, then scored six unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to capture a 10-4 win in the second game at the Baldwin Wallace Softball Field.

Two errors helped Grove City (20-9) take a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game Two. Senior third baseman Rachel Zona (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) then belted a two-run home run in the second inning to give Grove City a 4-0 lead.

Baldwin Wallace (23-8) scored three times in the third inning to forge a 4-4 tie. Three Grove City errors in the sixth helped fuel a six-run outburst.

Junior center fielder Noel Anthony (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) and sophomore left fielder Evelyn Montone (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) both doubled and singled for the Wolverines.

Sophomore pitcher Alexis Jackson (Coventry Township, Ohio/Coventry) started and allowed four runs in four innings. Freshman Ellie Day (New Marshfield, Ohio/Alexander) took the setback after pitching 1 2/3 innings. She did not allow an earned run. Freshman Elena Tylka (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) recorded the final out of the sixth inning.

Baldwin Wallace led 7-0 after two innings in Game One. Junior catcher Kristin Tesch (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) launched a solo home run in the fifth for the Wolverines, who finished with 10 hits.

Montone doubled and singled. Zona and senior right fielder Annika Rinehart (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) both went 2 for 3. Sophomore pitcher Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) doubled.

Meadors took the pitching defeat after pitching two innings. Junior Kyla Campbell (Altoona, Pa./Glendale) pitched four scoreless innings of relief. She struck out two and walked one.
